Sri vyAsa rAja (1466 – 1539) came in the lineage of Rajendra tIrtha. He was followed by Sri SrinivAsa tIrtha and Sri Rama tIrtha (1564 – 1584). After Sri Rama tIrtha this lineage again split into 2 branches. The one headed by Sri LakshmikAntha tIrtha became known as Sosale VyAsarAja maTha and the one headed by LakshmIdhara tIrtha became known as KundApura VyAsarAja maTha. The name ‘kundApura’ originates from the fact that a king had donated many villages around kundApura to Sri Srinivasa tIrtha. Sri LakshmIndra tIrtha, the current pontiff, is the 26th head of this maTha. He is the successor to Sri LakshmIsha tIrtha. He has learnt SrimannyAya sudha and other works under the renowned Sri VidyAmAnya tIrtha. He has built an excellent ashrama in abburu, where the brindavana of Sri Brahmanya tIrtha, the guru of Sri Vyasaraja is located.
